As part of my research for my book, I purchased a spreader bar much to the delight of my boyfriend/co-author. He wanted to add a spreader bar element to one of our chapters and I obliged, but after a layperson's search on line for information about the spreader bar, I felt as though my writing was fake and contrived. After interviewing a handful of co-workers, I turned up with no first hand information. I needed to experience this for myself. My boyfriend is very creative and had attempted to make a spreader bar at home. However, due to a lack of material, we attempted to use scarves as restraints on a chin-up bar. The mission was aborted as we both kept laughing at the total failure of our DIY. (Bite me, Pintrest) I ordered the spreader bar from Amazon the very next day.The bar arrived quickly and was as described. Once again, not intended for children, but upon examination, without the cuffs, it could be useful in blocking the sliding patio door. There is a second use for everything. It does have an adjustable length and is lightweight, perfect for beginners who need to ease into the device. It was affordable and not scary as some of the more advanced spreader bars can be. It was easy to assemble--my boyfriend snapped it together in less than a minute. The cuffs are also adjustable but do run a little small. They fit my ankles just fine, but if your ankles are large, be prepared to get a velcro extender. The cuffs were easy to attach to the bar as well. The bar worked great. It did not slip or slide during application. It was near impossible to move my legs together, but it is a beginner set and there is some give. Plus the maximum length is tolerable for the average body and flexibility. My hip flexors did not hyper-extend at all. The cuffs are attached to chains so you CAN move your legs a little bit. It is a bit of a false sense of control, but helps if you are nervous about adding this to your bedroom games. My boyfriend was able to use the bar to maneuver my legs to his liking. I thought that the bar would drive him crazy when it rested on his neck or back but he said that it didn't annoy him at all. We used thigh and wrist restraint along with the nipple clamps (reviews coming) and the combined purchases really made our bar purchase worth it. I am sure it would be fine on it's own, but the additional elements really gave the bar some extra merit. One usage suggestion--when you turn your partner over from front to back or vice-versa, Undo the ankle straps and then reapply. The action of the turn about ended up with me hitting him in the nose. Lesson learned. The attachment and release of the cuffs is fool-proof. Easy on and quick and easy off. We didn't try it on my wrists, but I am sure it can be used for this as well, minus a neck collar or padded rest. With some modifications, I am sure it could adapt. This was well worth the money. The only drawback is that the chains clang against the bar when in motion. This can add to the element of bondage play but can also be annoying to the neighbors if you have thin walls. (Sorry, Unit 1301).Seriously, the look of true happiness on my boyfriend's face was worth any amount of awkward meetups at the mailbox. This device can rev up your sex life just on it's own. Easy to use and user friendly. Be safe and take turns. It's worth it.
