So, this book COMPLETELY opened my mind to not only the pervasiveness of sexism in sport (and society), but they actually offer pragmatic solutions to address the sex gap in pay, in athletics, etc. And it makes you wonder -- what kind of society do we want to live in? What experiences do we want for our sons, daughters, children? Sports is something I had taken for granted my entire life being a die-hard sports fan. (Just a game, right!?) Now I realize not only the importance of sport culture to how we raise our children, but how we could actually use sport NOT to reproduce sex inequities, but to actually transcend them for positive change. How could you argue against that? If you find yourself challenged by their arguments (ESPECIALLY the sex/gender as social construct-- totally eyeopening!), or if you find yourself wanting to reject them out of hand without further self-inquiry (which is basically a no-no if you want to be a good person), please take the time to grapple with your assumptions and look at the bigger picture. Our community needs you to. Seriously good work here. Read this now!
