Description
Product Description A riveting documentary by sex therapist Maureen Sullivan who administers a hands-on" clinical but compassionate approach in resolving two of her clients' issues with sex. Sorting out emotional needs as well as physical ones makes this an intriguing look at her California-based practice. 1986/color/75 min/NR/fullscreen. Review "What gives the documentary its real power is not the pretty therapist at work but the abrasive confrontations--man and ex-wife, therapist and family--that leave no doubt the film is finally about love, and the absence of love." --Charles Champlin, The Los Angeles Times

I'm really on the fence about this one. I won't divulge too much of the film, but the narrative quickly becomes something other than what one might expect this to be. The viewer is introduced to two clients at nearly opposite points in their lives. One is a student and the other an older man. We also meet the therapist Maureen Sullivan whose seemingly blase attitude would suggest that she is poorly suited for this line of work. However, the motives and achievements of each of these three deviates from what is initially presented so that the film becomes more of a social commentary/psychological exploration that it is about the sex. That being said, it also reaches some pretty standard conclusions via some stock characters.
