ALMOST exactly what I wanted... I wanted groceries for my child’s cash register and I wanted to work on learning letter recognition for his ABC’s...so this would be the perfect toy... right???? You would think..but like other reviews said-14 of them are cardboard boxes...not as flimsy as some stated-but one wrong lean or a tumble and they will probably get crushed...or one child like mine who insists on opening everything and that’s it...BUT I FOUND A SOLUTION!!! I covered all of them in packing tape. It took about 30 minutes. Some didn’t come out looking the best - but now they can’t be opened and are a little stronger- but better yet- now they can be wiped down after play (thank you COVID)!!! I’m not sure why the manufacture didn’t think of this.I do have to say that for “shopping play” it’s a great combination of sizes and shapes (And the 5 cardboard canisters do open). These items are slightly on the big side-a little too big for the conveyor belt on his cash register- but I think they are more play friendly being this big (to give you a general idea- the R-raisin box is the size of a real box of raisins-and I’m not talking the little snack size). The picture I included of several of the items are positioned around a real bottle of salad dressing. My little girls and i love these because we learn the alphabet and play grocery or house with them. We have a littlw shopping cart and I set them up and we pretend to shopGreat little set! So cute and much sturdier than the grocery companion set that Melissa & Doug sells. I love that it comes with plastic jars that can’t damage anything. The canned foods have removable lids but I chose to glue mine down since my 2 year old frequently hides things that she’s able to remove. Boxed foods are a sturdy cardboard. I wish those were plastic too, but they’re still very well made and much harder to bend or break.I had hoped for a better product as a kids toy, but seeing as over half the items were simple printed cardboard the boxed items ended up getting stepped on, chewed on, and crushed. I really enjoyed the concept of having an alphabet of play foods, and maybe if the food items were all the same hard plastic as the jar items in this set it would have been more satisfying as a parent. These are so great for young kids learning while they play!!! We have a kitchen set and these are such a good way to learn alphabet while cooking dinner for all of us!! LolPurchased a ton of these and similar items for our daughters play room kitchen set up. She's constantly making us food and just loves them. Was able to get these and about nine other boxes of stuff and put out for her over a weekends time. She didn't know where they came from, but each day she found a new set of "play food". Keeps her entertained for hours.Ive had these in my preschool classroom for half a school year. So far they have held up but they aren't made of as strong cardboard as I would have liked.I thought all items were plastic but the cartons are cardboard. So for the money I think that is a downfall but overall they are good qualityI loved this product. The kids love it. The cans and jars are amazing quality. I wish the boxes were more sturdy. I have two toddlers who put everything in their mouths and the boxes are all broken or squished or chewed up after the first few days. I would suggest if you buy these for any child that tends to put stuff in their mouths to keep the boxes always from them until they are school age and know better. Or to somehow coat the boxes with something to not allow them to be damaged with toddlers. Other that that amazing product. Once again, the cans and jars are amazing condition. I really wish the boxes would have been made with the same material as the cans or jars :(For 50 dollars the whole set should be plastic. The kids step on, peel and bite the toys no matter how many times you tell them no.I wouldn't buy it again. I would simply forgo the whole grocery store pretend, as all sets even across brands, are far overpriced for what you get.
