Description
Obergefell v. Hodges was a wonderful decision -- because it's now forcing every Christian to decide whether their allegiance is to the Supreme Court or to the Supreme Being. In every other way, it was a terrible decision. But understanding where it came from and how it impacts our public and private lives isn't so straightforward. And for Christians, most of that difficulty stems from the fact that we have mis-identified the nature of the current culture war. Homosexual rights are about sexual liberty -- but only superficially. Primarily, gay marriage is about the right to control.Same-Sex Mirage starts to untangle the issues involved, beginning with the fundamentals of marriage and then tracing the effects of this foundational institution in every area of life. Is marriage a private matter -- an agreement before God alone? Or is it public -- a matter for legislation? But most Christians also need to think about the issues involved beyond the chapel. Does "marriage equality" affect public discourse? How should free speech play into this discussion? What does the Bible say about the Supreme Court, or repentance, or a theology of resistance?Obergefell was a disaster for our nation. And, as with every disaster, the biggest benefit is in determining how we Christians ignored all warnings and let it happen."Our secular culture is trying to redefine marriage because the church first showed the way by redefining love." ~ Douglas Wilson

Book Review: “Same Sex Mirage”Author: Douglas WilsonSummary:This book is a direct response to the Supreme Court’s Opinion in the case of “Obergefell vs Hodge”, which basically made Same Sex Mirage, thus the Federalization of the institute of marriage and the extreme redefinition of the institute itself. He gets into the political roots and the system of the LGBTQ+ agenda works and the use of our inherent need for social approval against us, through the use of shame mobs, the irony of using what it is meant to keep us in line when our conscience fails, aka, shame as tool to silence the truth of God.He breaks this books down into five separate sections, they are broken down as follows:Section 1: The Theology of the ThingRemanded to Sensitivity CampsThe Prophet Sober and the Culture DrunkA Pile of Soap FlakesSexual SmithereensDefining MarriageWith Arms QuiveringA Gracious Gift of the CreepsA brief Sexual CatechismSection 1: Marriage in PublicThe Magistrate and the Blindside Linebacker The Yarn in the Public Sweater With Maggots Under Their Tongue An Obergefell Word SaladSection 3: The Glorifying Professions Ickybod The Theology of Resistance for Florist Deny Him Seventy Times Seven Hailstorm of Pink Cotton BallsSection 4: The Cultural Moment Culture War-Now More Than Ever America in C Major With Stirrups Raised to MolechMillenials, Screwtape, and the Homo Tsunami Our Transgressive Daisy Chain Woe Betide That Guy You New Around Here The Five Smooth Stones of Theocratic Libertarianism Jitney MessiahsSection 5: Dictionary Wars How Blue the Sky Was My Militancy Elsie Dinsmore with a Beard Just Getting a Drink Doing the Sensitivity Sham That Decoupaged Chapter Red Queen Rising As Gay as a Pope Tweet No, No, Textual OrientationDouglas Wilson has to unfortunately has to do a lot of history and word definitions and qualifiers, tragically to keep the Evanjellyfish losing their minds because of the huge amount of secularism that permeates the church more than the truth of God.This is book is a call to arms though for the church before it too late and before the church becomes the house of Lot, where there is no one that will save them, because they have all been given over to themselves and that the only thing that will save is a supernatural act of God.Douglas Wilson is refreshingly blunt about the nature of things, while being tasteful about it. Which is quite a balancing act when you are dealing with the nature of Homosexuality and sodomy in general. As a person who prior to reading this book, viewed the State’s involvement in marriage as pernicious at best, after going through this book, I have had my view on this changed, especially in line with Theonomist perspective that, Wilson has.But outside of Theomonist perspective of how the magistrate is to be servant of God and the state to be answerable too and accountable to God.Wilson defines marriage as follows:“A common error among Christians holds that if you the sexual act is completed, then the couple are married ‘in God’s sight.’ Manny destructive complications occur in contemporary culture because we have adopted the idea that people can be married in God’s sight without being married. It is hard to say where this idea originated, but it has caused a lot of damage…Marriage is scripturally defined as a sexual relationship within the boundaries of a covenant commitment that has been formally ratified. The sexual relationship itself does not constitute marriage.…You must have an explicit covenant surrounding a sexual relationship. Not everyone who is sexually united is married, and not everyone who has exchanged vows is married. The covenant exist when the two elements are there together: covenant vows surrounding a covenant union.”Wilson further states the following:“If a covenant alone can constitute a marriage, then homosexual marriages are marriages, not mirages. If sexual intercourse alone constitutes a marriage, then a man who has visited women in five brothels is married to all of them, and all of them are married to every John who has been with them, which is absurd.”Wilson, stands on the word of God strongly in this book, this is a crucial thing that we as the body of Christ would be wise to get more into, since it is the word of God that renews our minds, it is only when our minds are renewed that we have hope, that hope gives us our reasoning, and we must reason against all godless philosophies and ideas that set themselves up against the truth of God, it is that truth of God that we use as sword and the solid rock we stand on that give us moral high ground to transform this world, we as the body of Christ must never conform to this world, we are commanded to transform is.The current culture and moral problems are first rooted in the churches rebellion against God, especially in our hearts. One of my favorite chapters were Chapter 8, “A Brief Sexual Catechism”; chapter 9, “The Magistrate and the Blindside Linebacker”; chapter 19, “With Stirrups Raised High to Molech”…but really the whole book was completely fantastic.Chapter 19, in particular lays out the two sacraments of the godless Left, sodomy and abortion, the glorification of the religion of fruitlessness, but this problem is not just problem in homosexual relationships, but the many Christian couples who are living out their lives as testimony to their rebellion to God, by rejecting the command of God to be fruitful and to multiply and full the earth, thus subduing it to and for the glory of God.I have noted two very disturbing trends taking place amongst Christians, if they have babies, they are choosing to not get married, if they are married they are choosing to not have children, but I must add another rebellion to God, the not getting married but co-habitating, living married with no responsibility or Godly authority.I give this book 5 out of 5 stars, I highly recommend that every Christian read it, if nothing else to get a proper perspective on and the importance of the marriage union as God created and Biblically defined. If you are a Christian in a business, you need to read this book, pastors who do not read this book are being lazy in their shepherding, because it no longer is fringe issue, but they are coming for you and your flock.
