To put it mildly, America has a schizophrenic view toward sex. On one end, our culture is undeniably obsessed with it, and always pushing the limits of what is regarded as "appropriate" for public consumption. Yet sex remains a mysterious, even taboo, part of our behavior. This is understandably confusing for young adults. Though we expect our celebrities to be "sexy" we also consider abstinence a virtue, especially for women. As kidnap and rape survivor Elizabeth Smart has noted, female sexuality is still being compared to gum--that is, it can be chewed once until it is ruined. This can be a devastating perspective to imbue upon young women. If teens entering college are anything like myself at that age, then they would rather get waterboarded than have an open conversation with their parents about sex. This is why I would especially recommend this book for any college or college-bound young people. It offers an enjoyable and informative overview of millennial's sexual behavior, which allows the reader to gain a better understanding of this touchy subject. It teaches us that there is nothing wrong with our individual sexual desires, while at the same time offering a brave perspective on what is NOT okay. Anyone who has been on a college campus recently can attest that something needs to change in regards to our attitudes toward sex. This book is a wonderful first step in accomplishing just that by shedding light on one of the hottest topics of our time.
