Nothing prepares you for life better than experience. The same can be said of understanding the law. You can study life but not truly understand it unless you have lived for a while. I studied law for 30-years. I have taken and passed two State Bar exams. I’ve read numerous cases, statutes and laws. My true education, however, did not start until the first day a walked into a courtroom in November of 1992 and argued my first case. I learned the application of the law is vastly different than the study of the law. Similar to the journey of life one must “live” the law in order to truly understand it. I’ve been living the “law” for 29 years, 15 years as a prosecutor and the past 14 years as a criminal defense attorney. The experience has provided me with a very unique understanding of the Criminal Justice System. This book and those to follow will provide a better understanding of a system that can tragically impact your life.
