I got the version that does not have the LCD screen for writing. It's a cute little learning tool that is small and portable. It would be great for on the go when you need your little one to be busy but don't want to lug around a huge bag of toys, and it's a nice alternative to sticking a device in your child's hands! Too much of that these days! The cards are double sided, and it's pretty simple. Insert the card, and the device says the name of the object, and the child can see the printed word simultaneously. The child's age and development will determine what they get out of this toy, and it's likely to change as they grow. At first, it could simply be learning words and associated pictures, but then as children are introduced to more and more phonics foundational skills, they can begin to grasp the letters and words as they begin to read. It would also be great for ELLs - children whose parents speak another language - to help them pick up on English words.
